Welcome!
Why I decided to start my blog...
As I look over the past few years I have been fortunate enough to have many amazing opportunities in my life. I have learned and grown so much and there is so much more to come. I find my self writing a lot in my spare time about all my adventures and I thought it was finally time to share them with others. I hope I can share my stories in a way that uplifts and inspires others like they have me.
The world has so much to teach us if we can take the time to listen and reflect. This blog, in a way, is just that. It's an opportunity for me to really listen, reflect, and most importantly share with others all the amazing opportunities our world presents us with.
The story behind the name...
As long as I can remember I always wanted to be 21. In my young mind 21 was the prime year in any persons life. I thought that by 21 I would be completely independent and all grown up. I thought I would be done with school and have a fabulous Job in New York City. I also thought by 21 I would have everything in my life all in order and I would finally know who I was.
Now that I am in fact 21 I look back and see I was very wrong about a lot of things. First thing 21 is not grown up at all! I'm still a child who is learning and growing every day. I have come a long way but I have an even longer way to go. There is no age when you all of the sudden are just grown up. We are all constantly growing and learning no matter our age.
Second, You will never have your life all figured out. It's an impossible goal. In life we learn and grow, as a result we also change. Our lives are not a set path that we can map out. Life happens, plans change, and that's just the way it is. Life is an adventure and if we look at it with an open mind it can be amazing. The future is completely unknown and for some of us that is scary but it can also be exciting.
When we look forward in fear we close off all opportunity for growth. When we look forward with eyes of excitement we see all the amazing opportunities we have and we have the opportunity to take advantage of them.
The last thing I had wrong was the "Who am I?" question. You will not just all of a sudden hit a point in your life when you finally know who you are. You will slowly discover yourself through challenges, experiences, and everyday life. You will always be growing and changing, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. The answer to “who am I?” is not as simple as you think. You are not defined by a list of skills you have or a list of flaws you have. You are not defined by how others view you. We are all just people who are trying to find our way in the world.
We are not perfect and we were never intended to be perfect. Perhaps instead of asking "who we are?" we should be more concentrated on, who we affect, who can we help, and how can I be better tomorrow than I was today.
I'm not anyplace close to the place I imagined myself to be at 21 but I'm so glad I'm not. I have a whole life ahead of me to learn and grow. Life is a journey and this is mine.
